All water bodies age in a natural process where sediment, organic
matter, and debris gradually fill in the basin forming a marsh or delta.
This on-going process occurs gradually over many years.

When land in the drainage area of a lake is disturbed by rural or
urban development, the aging process is greatly accelerated.
Non-point source pollution is a general term used for describing a
foreign substance entering the water body. Typically, pollutants- silt,
nutrients, pesticides, etc. carried into the water body via storm water
runoff.

The most widespread component of non-point source pollution is
sedimentation caused by eroding soils in the watershed. Soil
erosion cannot be stopped, only slowed by effective control
techniques and sound management practices in the watershed.

Aquatic Solutions has developed a mechanical dredging technique that utilizes a floating self-propelled barge that operates a hydraulic clamshell bucket. The dredge reaches down to the bottom of the lake and grabs a bucket of silt.
Excavated material is removed from the lake and placed in hopper barges for efficient material transport from the dredging area to the acccess point of the lake.
Once the material is loaded on the barge, the barge is moved by a small tug designed for the operation to the selected point for off loading. The barge and tug were designed to operate in as little as 30 inches of water.
The barges are off loaded with a hydraulic excavator that utilizes a hydraulic clammshell similar to the one used on the dredge.
The material is loaded into dump trucks and hauled off to its final destination.
